Have you ever had a pet fish? Have you ever had a dead pet fish? What did you do with it? I bet you flushed it down the toilet. I know I've flushed my fair share of fish down the toilet. But what made flushing fish a tradition? Why do we do it?

Perhaps it is because we are a kind species and we are nice enough to put fish back in water, their natural habitat, after death. Or perhaps not. Perhaps somebody misplaced their trashcan and didn't have a yard to bury a dead fish in so the only thing left to do was flush it down the toilet. Or perhaps there's not really a reason. Perhaps we shall find out.

Perhaps I should stop perhaps-ing and get on with the interviews.

Morgan612: Why do you think we flush dead fish down the toilet?

lucyluv18: Because what's left of them would be happy in sewer water. You know, they lived in water so we wouldn't bury them.
petewent2: I think we flush dead fish down the toilet because fish belong in the water.
suddenluv: So we can get rid of those little lizards with wings!
Kirskooki: Because fish probably clogged up the sink drains. Or perhaps since fish swim in their own poop they wouldn't mind being dead in someone else's.

So maybe I was thinking correctly, and we do it because fish and water just go together like spaghetti and meatballs. Or possibly people who don't like fish just want to get rid of them forever. Or perchance they don't fit down sinks. Or there's always the possibility that there are so many dead fish if we buried them all there wouldn?t be room in the backyard. We shall see.

Well, I did some research. My research shows that it may not even be a tradition, everyone just thought of flushing fish, probably because it's water, and easier than burying or letting them decay in your trashcan. So nobody really knows where it started or why we do it, people just do it. Kind of like wearing sweaters or eating cheese.

Thanks for reading this has been yet another . . . HEY WATCH OUT FOR THAT FALLING COCONUT!

Author's Note: Thanks to KirsKooki for this week's idea.
