Okay, picture this:
I come home from school completely exhausted from the long week, and want to do nothing but lie down. So, fully dressed, I collapse on my bed and close my eyes. It doesn't take long before I'm asleep.
At around four in the morning, my eyes pop open. I know exactly where I am and what happened, but I'm still sort of sluggish. Still, I'm ravenous from missing dinner. I drag myself to the kitchen, let my hand explore the depths of the refrigerator, and wait for my eyes to adjust to the light.
When I withdraw my hand, it's holding a can of peach slices. I grab a fork and dig in, too hungry to bother with a bowl. It's tempting to drink the syrup at the bottom directly from the can, but I worry about the sharp edges. I get a straw, and sip until there's nothing left. Then I wash the can and set it on the kitchen counter, thinking that I'll find a way to reuse it the next day. I trudge to my room and go to sleep again.
Seven o'clock the next morning, I'm groggy and grumpy and annoyed with myself for no reason in particular. I lay in bed for a while, just trying to build up the energy to get up. I wander around for a bit, looking to see if I'm the only one awake. I see my entire family is up, but not before I pass the kitchen counter and realize that something is wrong.
"Where is my can?!" I practically screech.
After about half an hour of interviewing family members and searching the kitchen, I realize that it's exactly where I left it.
