The Real Whyvillian Crisis

Giggler01
Times Writer

Last week I read in the times an article about a Whyville crisis. Boys wearing blush? I say, let 'em wear what they would like! But you wanna know what the real crisis is? You probably already, somewhere deep down. I'll bring it up, just so that maybe some people will read it, and take a hint.

Lately there has been a lot of talk about newbies and oldbies (and you know, that's a weird name, because it makes my think of REALLY old people with wrinkles and grey hair). There has also been lots of arguing about Why-Passes. I myself have also touched on the issue of individuality in Whyville that has affected a lot of people.

So, what do these all have in common? It's all about change. And as it happens, most of the time, humans don't adapt to change well. These also have another thing in common. Time. Here's what I mean...

A lot of oldies, that all look the same, disrespect newbies. This is one reason I'm happy being the one in between, I mean I'm not exactly an oldbie, but I'm certainly not a newbie. So why don't oldbies just get over the fact that these people are here?

The newbies are going to take over when you leave; I mean, let's face it, one day you are going to feel too old to be on Whyville and it will be so long Whyville! And what will happen then? Don't believe me? I'll name a few legends: Charity, Madeleine, Vanilla. All got bored or busy or whatever, and haven't been on in a few (hundred) days.

So be generous. Do you remember only owning a nose and mouth? It happens to EVERYONE! If you got your best friend on this, would you make fun of them when they were a newbie? Think about it. You have no idea whom you're talking to on the other side!

So, now we're on to issue of Why-Passes. Keep 'em or leave 'em? Well, let's look at it another way: who owns a Why-Pass? Not all oldies own Why-Passes, do they? In fact, I know people who aren't oldies that own Why-Passes. I myself held my mother's Visa in my hands and was about to buy a Why-Pass; however, the page I was trying to vu was unable to be displayed.

I'm not an oldie, but I wanna see change in Whyville, so I support Why-Passes. I mean, there are countless oldies who want more out of Whyville, but would prefer that other people buy Why-Passes. Don't you need newbies then?

Another thing, if you are not willing to spend money for a Why-Pass but still find time to get on Whyville, I feel you are probably more devoted then the people who spend $5 to get on. I mean, these are the people who put up with the Waiting Room day after day!

The last thing that I would like to talk about is, if you are like me and in the middle, I'd like to say I respect you the most. You put up with being a newbie (and you survived!) and now you may consider becoming an oldie. If only it meant not being so snotty! I know that that's how I feel.

And here is what I would like to say to newbies, seeing as I have nagged the oldies about you. Although they may have more experience then you, that gives them no right to talk to you badly. Stand up for yourself, if they persist, tape 'em up! That's what I say. But remember, some people are using their money for things. It takes awhile to save up for a furniture or bricks, a membership at Club Why, and sometimes not even they earn a lot of money. I said I was in the middle, right? I earn 93 clams a day, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a lot on me at any given time. It takes 4 days to save up to buy a room to my house, and even longer to save up for furniture. I even managed to save up to 1000 for Club Why. So, you have to remember that they have to work hard for their clothes and their salary.

Newbies, take advantage of your position while you can!! It is definitely worth going to Grandma's while you still can. You won't regret it. And remember how hard it is to be a newbie. It'll be helpful when you are an oldie. Oh, and ask for help, not the answers or clams. It feels a lot better to earn your own salary, AND you'll get a lot more people willing to help.

My last tip for newbies is that everyone survives if they try. Don't worry if you don't follow the crowd. You may just start a trend, whether the oldies like it or not!

I hope this will help a few of us, old, new or in the middle. I would love to here from you if you have anything to say on this. In fact I prefer hearing about the things people disagree with in my articles. It helps me see the whole thing, and sometimes I end up agreeing with some of them. But I enjoy them all! Anyway, it's only on your computer game and one day everyone will feel a little to old for Whyville, so enjoy it while you can!

This is Giggler01, giving one final piece of advice: Walk a mile in a person's shoes, because then you will know what it feels like to be them, and you will have their shoes! Chow all!
