You smile at me and the pain cuts me deep.
You laugh and all I want to do is hold you safe.
I want to tell you that it will be alright.

You cry, and I rejoice the fact that you're still alive.
I tend to your wounds, knowing that you're still able to bleed.

I listen to your heartbeat race at every laugh.
Every cry.
Every hit.

Your tear stained cheeks haunt my nights.
I can only picture you in pain.
A picture that makes me cringe;
Knowing that I can do absolutely nothing about it.

The screams that awoke you in the night.
And I was there to calm you.
That night that was like no other
When mother told us to stay in bed.

You watched me fight.
You wanted him and I fight.
As I disappeared from your life.

A year later, I've never forgotten about our love.
I've never been able to forget your blue eyes when I left the house.
They were so sad, so helpless.
I came back home, only for you to greet me with open arms.

Nine years old and fighting.
I watch you standing tall.
Standing with your head held high.
I take your hand in mine.

We both know that together no one can take us down.
Especially not him.

You are my blood.
You are my sister.
And I love you.

Author's Note: I wrote this for my little sister. She truly is the light of my life. Without her, I'd be nothing.
