Amazingly, none of us seem to like the same music. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who still listens to the Backstreet Boys or loves classical music. But every once in a while, you find someone who loves that one song you do or obsesses over your favorite band.

I don't know if I'm the only one who becomes immensely curious with the music tastes of others but I decided to snag a few Times Writers/BBSers and asked them a few questions.

So let's find out if I really am the only one who still likes the Backstreet Boys!

msof57: Who would you say is your favorite singer/band?

ooooopppp: I don't really have a favorite band . . . but if this were a life and death situation, ooooopppp would have to say KISS.
sims2girl: It changes almost daily; at the moment, my favorite group is Enya.
Monet1616: Evanescence, because they're original and if music can make you cry, it OBVIOUSLY means it's touching you. That or someone hitting you with a rubber chicken or the person singing it can't sing.
Wicked777: It changes everyday, but today it's Jon McLaughlin.
msof57: I love love love U2! They're my favorite band in the world. I also really like Coldplay and Rascal Flatts. Currently though, I've been enjoying listening to Jewel.

Oh well, I guess my beloved boy band can wait. (This is where you say, "Oh no msof! I love the Backstreet Boys more!)

msof57: What is your favorite song?

ooooopppp: Don't really have a favorite song . . . But if this was a life and death situation, ooooopppp would have to say "Detroit Rock City" by KISS. sims2girl: At the moment, "Fall for You" by Secondhand Serenade, mostly because I'm trying to teach myself it on the piano.
Monet1616: My favorite song would be "River Flows in You" by Yiruma. Classical music calms me down, it's the one thing that CAN calm me down!
Wicked777: If you ask me in five minutes, I'll have a different answer. Right this moment it's "Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure.
msof57: Oh goodness, well, I'll narrow it down to about six! "Walk On" by U2, "Standing Still" by Jewel, "The Sixth Station" by Joe Hisaishi, "River Flows in You" by Yiruma, and "Violet Hill" by Coldplay

Being the curious person I am, I've always been interested in what people think of the new teen stars that have been swimming in Disney's glory lately . . .

msof57: Which do you prefer overall as a singer? Miley Cyrus or Demi Lovato?

ooooopppp: After flipping a quarter, George Washington says ooooopppp prefers this Demi Potato person.
sims2girl: I haven't heard much of Demi, but, from what I have heard, she's a better singer than Miley.
Monet1616: Demi Lovato. Miley Cyrus just yells and even if she tried, she couldn't sing.
Wicked777: I've never heard any music by Demi Lovato, so I guess I'll have to say Miley Cyrus. I don't really like either one, though.
msof57: Definitely Demi. Even though I don't like them both I dislike Miley more.

msof57: What's an oldies song you really like?

ooooopppp: "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by The Animals
sims2girl: Haha, I love a bunch of oldies! My favorites would have to be "Joy to the World," "Band of Gold," and, of course, "Respect!" (REPRESENT!)
Monet1616: Do I have to pick? Oldies music was awesomeness!
Wicked777: "Walk Away Renee." The Four Tops did a remake of it, but I like the original by the Left Banke.
msof57: I like "In the Ghetto" by Elvis,"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" by Elton John and Kiki Dee, and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

msof57: What's one of your favorite musicals? What's one of your favorite songs from that production?

ooooopppp: Does "Night of the Living Dead" count as a musical? "NOOOOOOO Ahhhh HAAAhaaa ohhhhhh, dun."
sims2girl: Wicked. I absolutely love the song "Loathing/What is This Feeling."
Monet1616: Musicals, musicals... Hm, I'd have to say it was Mary Poppins. "Supercalifragalisticexpialidocious" was my favorite song from that movie. I'd rewind the VCR until it broke listening to that song.
Wicked777: Tick, Tick, BOOM! is one of my favorite musicals. I like the song "Boho Days" because it's funny and random. The beat is catchy too! Oh no, now I can't get it out of my head . . .
msof57: West Side Story. My favorite song would either have to be "Maria" or "Cool." (I have "Maria" completely memorized... and it's hard to!) Maria, Maria, Maria, Mariiiiaaaa!

msof57: What is a movie that you consider to have really good music?

ooooopppp: 007 Casino Royal, just because of the James Bond theme song.
sims2girl: 13 Going on 30. It's one of my favorite soundtracks.
Monet1616: I would say Twilight, but it was horrible, so I'm going with Juno. I like how weird the music is; it makes me feel cozy and normal.
Wicked777: The music from the Harry Potter movies are amazing! I also like songs from the Disney Movies.
msof57: Even though I've never seen it, I think Schindler's List has amazing music. (It makes me cry!) I also really really love the music from Hayao Miyazaki's films.

Of course, I had to be nosy and see the new gadgets they were carrying around . . .

msof57: Do you own an MP3 player? What kind and how much do you use it?

ooooopppp: Yes. Don't know what kind it is. Ooooopppp only uses it on long trips.
sims2girl: Yes, I have an iPod nano generation two, and I use it about 4 to 5 hours a day.
Monet1616: Yes I do, it's an iPod shuffle and it's always on. If it dies I have a heart attack and pull out the flaming shovel . . .
Wicked777: I own an iPod nano, but I only use it for long walks and vacations. Usually I just use my computer to play music.
msof57: I own the newest green iPod nano and it has 16GB. Let's just say whenever I'm not at school or sleeping the earphones are glued into my ears.

msof57: Who is your favorite composer?

ooooopppp: Ludwig Van Beethoven.
sims2girl: Beethoven's the only one I've been exposed to fully, so I'd go with him.
Monet1616: Mozart. I've always loved everything he'd written since I was in first grade.
Wicked777: It's a tie between Jonathan Larson and Stephen Sondheim.
msof57: Joe Hisaishi.

msof57: What would you say is your favorite album/CD?

ooooopppp: Don't really have a favorite album . . . but if this were a life and death situation, ooooopppp would have to say Stone Temple Pilot's album, "Core."
sims2girl: Err . . . Ummm . . . Once again, this is an "at the moment" thing, but right now the Twilight Soundtrack is my favorite physical CD I own. Big surprise, eh?
Monet1616: I don't have one, I'm not one to listen to just one type of music by one artist and love it. Unless you count random CDs I burn off the computer.
Wicked777: The soundtrack to Sweeney Todd, but again, my taste in music depends on my mood.
msof57: I like Amy Grant's "Simple Things", Coldplay's "Viva la Vida", Tomita's "Snowflakes are Dancing", and U2's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" albums.

I wonder what Monet meant by "burn . . ."

msof57: What do you think overall of your music collection?

ooooopppp: Perfect rock collection. Couldn't be better, unless it was all on one single CD.
sims2girl: It's kind of limited, but I love it to little bits and pieces.
Monet1616: I love it because it's mine. And if anyone touches an iPod or CD of mine they'll be destroyed by my squirrel minions!
Wicked777: It's not a very big collection, but I put a lot of time into finding quality music.
msof57: I am extremely proud of my music collection. It's huge! About 1,100 songs total on my iPod. My music is very different and highly original and there's something in it for everyone!

So overall, I'm glad to see how distinct and similar our tastes in music are! We might not all like the same artist or genre, but that won't stop us from making our love to music even stronger!

Off to listen to "Vertigo",
msof57
