Lifestyle
I am not your usual type of fish. I have a long snake-like body and many sharp fang-like teeth. I hide in holes in coral or in caves during the day, and do most of my hunting at night. Because I am active at night, I am nocturnal. When I hunt, I will hide until my prey swims by. Then I will strike out very quickly to catch my prey and return to my hiding spot.
Fun Facts
I am the biggest moray in the Pacific, and can grow up to 3 meters (almost 10 feet) in length! I am a fierce predator. I will attack humans, but only if you bother me. When you see me, I am always opening and closing my mouth. I'm not doing this to be scary! I have to open and close my mouth so that water can pass over my gills and I can breathe.
Menu
My favorite dish is fish! I will also eat lobsters, crabs, and octopi, although an octopus is very difficult for me to catch. But I have even been known to attack and eat smaller white-tip reef sharks. I only eat animals, so I am a carnivore.
Threats
People hunt me to sell for aquariums, but I don't make a good aquarium animal because I grow too large. Reefs are in danger, and that means so is my home!
