Lifestyle
I am a cephalopod. That means I have a large head and many arms or tentacles. Squids and cuttlefish are also cephalopods. During the day, I walk or swim over the reef and hunt. Most octopi hunt at night but I will rest and hide under a coral ledge or in a cave. I am a very strong, aggressive predator. I might not have bones, but I am almost all muscle! I use my tentacles to catch my prey. The suction-cups on my tentacles make it almost impossible to escape me. When I have caught my prey I will jump on top of it and then eat it with my sharp beak.
Fun Facts
I'm just going to say it: I'm amazing. Really, I mean, how many other creatures can change the way they look in one second flat? I can change my skin color to match any background and (because I don't have any bones) I can change myself into almost any shape. In fact, one scientist watching me saw me changing patterns 1,000 times over a 7 hour period! See, I told you I'm amazing. My totally awesome shape-shifting and color-changing abilities protect me from most predators and also help me to sneak up on my prey. If I am really scared, however, I have another way of protecting my self: I can squirt a cloud of ink at my predator. This distracts my predator as I quickly swim away.
Menu
I love to crunch on crabs, shrimps and clams, but I also love to eat fish! I only eat other animals, so I am a carnivore.
Threats
Many people think I'm delicious! While I'm good to eat, humans must be careful that they don't take too many of me out of the reef! Reefs are in danger, and that means so is my home!
