The North Reef Needs Us

Mylo9810 reports on a terrible disaster.

Oh, dear! Not again! Well, yes, it IS again. Our poor North Reef is becoming . . . well, poor. But have no fear! I'm going to show you guys some steps to help clean up and sponsor our very own Whyville reef!

To find out on your own of what's going on, grab your scuba gear and dive into the North Reef to discover some things. Count cautiously, look at the graphs, and think. What is the cause of this terrible-ness?

But what can you do to help? Actually, it's quite simple! You must have seen those advertisements for saving the reef on the homepage are popping up lately, right? Click one of those, and you've completed the first step. But has that helped the reef yet? Of course not! Look around to what you see on the page. Read each one carefully.

Water Shortages In India

Cbeatles informs us about a growing problem in her parents' native country.

I was sitting in my second hour American History class. I had just finished a test on the Legislative Branch of the Constitution, and after tests we aren't allowed to do anything but read. That day I had forgotten my book I was reading, so I picked up a Scholastic Upfront magazine from the table next to my teacher's desk and sat back down at my desk and began to read it. I opened the front page to a picture that really surprised me. An Indian farmer was standing in a barren, cracked and dried out wasteland that used to be his once fertile fields.

I was aware of water shortages around the world. I knew they were bad in India and Africa especially, but I didn't know the shortages were this bad. Fresh drinking water in India is becoming increasingly scarce with global warming. It's not just affecting the penguins and polar bears in Antarctica, but those in the tropics as well.
